This will be a ‘hard skills’ practice day including practice sight translation, ASL-English/English-ASL using instructor provided stimulus. Students will video themselves, analyze work in pairs, and discuss ideas for interpreting a variety of concepts.

Educational Objectives:
Participants will:
 - analyze source language of stimuli in written English, ASL, and/or spoken English in order to identify gist and details to include in interpretation to target language
-interpret stimulus materials into target language of spoken English or ASL, using video to capture work
-discuss options for interpretations with colleagues, including but not limited to: vocabulary options in English/ASL, setting up space, ASL/English grammar, classifiers, expansion techniques and more.
- evaluate videos of their work in order to identify errors, omissions, and correctly interpreted concepts

Workshop is approved for .3 RID & QAST/ICRC CEUs per session

About the presenter:
D'Andra Parsons will be facilitating this learning day! D’Andra has been Oklahoma QAST certified since 2001, earning her RID CI/CT in 2008. Her degrees include a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Oklahoma and a M.Ed. from the University of North Florida in ASL/English Interpreting. Since 2013, D’Andra has worked as part time faculty with the Interpreter Training Program at OSU-OKC. She enjoys the varied settings and clientele that freelance work provides. She makes her home in Davis but provides interpreting services throughout the state.

Target Audience - interpreters of any skill level
Workshop will be presented in ASL and English - the presenter will give instructions in ASL but converse privately as needed in ASL/English with Deaf/hearing participants depending on the skill they are working on.

Workshop only offered to OKRID members, with the exception of OSUOKC students.
Cancellation fee refundable through March 26. After that date, registration can be transferred but no refunds given.
